Viscosity
Normalized resistance-to-flow control. Higher values shorten and widen the educational flow traces; this is not a measured material viscosity.

Studio Lab / Gravity & Viscosity Lab
Adjust normalized viscosity, gravity influence, release height, surface angle, and tool movement. The traces are original interface geometry that make relationships legible; they are not paint forecasts or historical reconstructions.
Learning objective
Explore simplified directional relationships among normalized viscosity, gravity influence, release height, surface angle, and tool movement while distinguishing an educational model from measured material physics or historical reconstruction.
Method: A fixed deterministic seed generates 48 potential flow traces. Lower normalized viscosity lengthens traces; stronger gravity influence increases downward travel; higher normalized release height increases spread and travel; surface angle changes directional drift; tool movement adds lateral oscillation. These relationships are intentionally simplified and bounded so visitors can change one variable at a time and inspect the difference.
Historical boundary: No preset is named for an artist, historical work, studio event, proprietary medium, or signature technique. The lab does not reconstruct drip/pour behavior from a historical artwork, reproduce a named artist's process, or infer authorship, intent, quality, influence, or movement membership from generated traces.
Accessibility: All five variables use labeled native range inputs with visible values. Presets are buttons, the current settings are restated as a live text summary, the default flow specimen and complete parameter dictionary exist in base HTML, and no conclusion depends on animation or color. The interaction has no autoplay.
Bounded process model
Only the surface-angle control is expressed in degrees. Every other number is a normalized 1–9 or 0–100 interface scale, not a laboratory measurement.
Text equivalent
moderate viscosity; moderate diagram pull; mid normalized release; level surface; moderate lateral tool movement. This is a normalized educational approximation, not a physical prediction.
Parameter dictionary
None of these controls should be converted into a historical claim.
Normalized resistance-to-flow control. Higher values shorten and widen the educational flow traces; this is not a measured material viscosity.
Range 1–9/9
Normalized downward-pull control used by this diagram. It is not a selectable physical gravitational constant.
Range 1–9/9
Normalized release-height control. Higher settings increase initial spread and trail length without claiming a real-world distance.
Range 1–9/9
Tilts the diagram surface left or right. The angle is a geometric teaching variable, not a reconstructed historical support angle.
Range -30–30°
Adds lateral oscillation to the release path. It does not model a named artist's hand, gesture, or documented tool motion.
Range 0–100%
