Civil-rights-era artistic context, 1954–1968
Civil-rights history formed part of the environment in which these artists worked, but the sources show sharply different artistic responses—from explicit imagery to nonobjective abstraction. AEU therefore records chronology and documented artist statements without converting political context into automatic formal causation.
