Gutai’s postwar Japanese practice and international exchange

The Guggenheim’s Gutai retrospective identifies the Gutai Art Association as a Japanese postwar collective active from 1954 to 1972. AEU uses this to make a distinct regional and international history discoverable while refusing to classify Gutai as a branch, precursor, or consequence of Abstract Expressionism without item-level evidence.
