Indigenous abstraction and canon reassessment, 2017–2026
Action/Abstraction Redefined, Stretching the Canvas, and Dakota Modern are later institutional efforts to expand histories of Native modernism and postwar abstraction. AEU treats these exhibitions as historiography, not retroactive proof that every included artist belongs to Abstract Expressionism.
