Start by locating the smallest unit you believe repeats. Then test whether the same boundary still works at the edges.

What is the smallest piece you can repeat to reconstruct the field? If you choose a smaller fragment, what information is lost?

Look where one cell meets the next. Is the seam concealed, emphasized, or turned into part of the motif?

Does your eye group several small units into a larger phrase, center, stripe, or cadence?

Words like calm, busy, satisfying, mechanical, playful, or tense are readings. Record them as interpretation, not fact.

Process connection: once you can see the unit and seam, rebuild them in the Material & Process Explorer.
